Cheese, Green onion, and Dill Bread

This is a quick bread to make. It is full of wonderful flavors, it is a great side to any salad, cold, or hot soup. This bread should be eaten as fresh as possible. Recipe contains dairy.

Ingredients:

  • Butter, for greasing
  • 2 cups self-rising flour ( or use all-purpose flour and 2 tsp baking powder)
  • 1 tsp. Kosher salt
  • 1 tsp. mustard powder
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheese
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced or chopped green onion
  • 2 tsp. Chopped fresh dill
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 T. melted butter

Steps:

  1. Grease a 9 inch square or round cake pan with a little butter and line the bottom of the pan with baking parchment paper. ( you can use Pam baking spray if you wish)
  2. Sift the flour, salt, and mustard powder into large bowl.
  3. Reserve 3 Tbsp of grated cheese for sprinkling over the top before baking.
  4. Stir the remaining grated cheese into the bowl of flour. Mix together with the chopped green onion.
  5. Add the beaten egg, melted butter, and milk to the dry ingredients and stir the mixture until well combined.
  6. Pour mixture into prepared pan and spread evenly with a spatula. Sprinkle reserved grated cheese over the top of the bread.
  7. Bake bread in a preheated oven at 375 degree, for about 30 minutes.
  8. Let the bread cool slightly in pan. Turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely. Cut into triangles and serve.
